OUR STORY
Hello and welcome! We are Yesenia, George and Corbin, the family behind Pear Bloom Farm. We primarily grow pears and flowers in the beautiful Hood River Valley, Oregon.
The effects of climate change and family wellbeing have guided us in improving our farming practices. With the birth of our son, Corbin, we realized the urgency to accelerate our efforts. We found our way to regenerative agriculture and haven’t looked back; transforming our growing practices into a holistic model that we're proud of. This model goes beyond agriculture; It's a way of being.
Welcome to the Pear Bloom Farm community!
MEET THE TEAM
Pear Bloom Farm is a luxurious bouquet of personalities, stories and talents
YESENIA
My name is Yesenia and I’m one of the creatures buzzing around Pear Bloom Farm. I’m the Owner, Creative Director, and Head Floral Artist of Pear Bloom Farm. The hats I wear stack a mile high, but the first and most important hat I wear is being Corbin’s mother. Then, being my best self and George’s wife. All else follows. But aren’t these personal roles? Good question. The regenerative agriculture model views the farm as an ecosystem. I am part of the ecosystem and these are my most precious roles within it. I like to make the farm a place of peace and beauty.
I’m proud to come from a family of dreamers who immigrated to the Columbia River Gorge in the 1980’s from Colima Mexico. They mostly worked as farmworkers in the pear orchards and my mother became a community health worker focusing on farmworker health. I was a small town girl growing up in White Salmon, WA, so I decided to leave and never look back. I received a degree in International Business Administration from Seattle University, but only after leaving could I fully appreciate the natural wonder that is home in the Columbia River Gorge. Then I met George and it was even more beautiful, so I moved back. For six years I worked in the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle tech industry, but as our farm grew, I left the corporate grind for the farm grind. And now I’m here at Pear Bloom Farm playing with flowers and snacking on pears.

GEORGE
Meet George from the Gorge! My husband and Co-Owner of Pear Bloom Farm. He is the pear farming expert, problem solver, and in-house amateur scientist. He has a such a good eye in the natural world. He notices the tiniest little creatures while attending larger trends. He is always experimenting, making observations, taking random pictures of bugs, plants, leaves, and soil. When it comes to farming George always says to “Be Brave”, a motto he adopted from an entomologist. The idea came from an Integrated Pest Management approach that encourages us (human farmers) to be brave and wait for the beneficial insects and ecosystem to do it’s job before we intervene. With this mindset, he found his way to the regenerative agriculture approach that we have wholeheartedly embraced at Pear Bloom.
George has deep roots in Hood River Valley, as he was born and raised here. The Oates family has been in the valley for five generations now and his family made a living in the area from the timber industry in the early to mid 1900’s. In 1970, his parents purchased the family farm in Parkdale, OR. George grew up around farming and dreamed of someday having a farm of his own. Now, he is living the dream (Something I like to remind him of, when we are sleep deprived and running on fumes during the crazy spring season. Ha ha!)

He also helps George, the head orchardist, learn Spanish as Corbin’s first language is Spanish. Fun fact: Corbin named our Bloom and Buzz project! He used to call bees “buzz buzz” and is absolutely fearless. He even picked one up with his little fingers (I have no idea how he wasn’t stung!).
